Helicopter Pilot Training
PPL(H) Licence
1) FLYING
REQUIREMENTS:
The minimum
age to apply for a licence is 17 years. Under joint
Aviation Requirements Applicants for a Private Pilot Licence (Helicopter) - PPL(H) shall have completed at least
45
hours of flight time as a pilot of helicopters.
(5 hours may have been completed in the procedural trainer or simulator).
The requirements to complete 45 hours may be reduced by up to a maximum of 6
hours for holders of an aeroplane, microlight, gyroplane and glider
licences. The total required time above must include;
(a) Not less than 25 hours dual instruction
(b) Not less than 10 hours of supervised solo flight to include at least 5
hours of solo cross country including a flight of at least 100 Nautical
Miles with full stop landings at two different airfields.
The above requirements shall have been completed on one type of helicopter
and if the privileges of the licence are to be exercised at night a further
course of at least 15 hours night training is required. An applicant for a
PPL(H) shall hold a valid Class 1 or Class 2 Medical Certificate a list of
doctors able to conduct aviation medical examinations is available on
request.
2) THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE: The Theoretical Knowledge Instruction Syllabus of the PPL(H) course shall cover the following:

| 4 | Navigation & Radio Aids |
| 5 | Flight Performance & Planning |
| 6 | Aircraft General & Principals of Flight |
| 7 | Communication |
The Culmination of the training will result in the applicant sitting
Theoretical Knowledge Examinations in the above subjects, and a Skill Test,
to be taken in the Type of helicopter on which training has been given.
The Skill Test for the PPL(H) must be taken with a qualified examiner.
